| birth talk | hands on holistics | yoga for pregnancy and beyond |

Yoga is a complete science of life and originated in India thousands of years ago. It is the oldest system of personal development, encompassing the body, mind and spirit using the breath as the link. Pregnancy is a time of great change both physically, emotionally and also spiritually. Yoga can play a large part in promoting health in pregnancy and childbirth and in providing a positive environment for the growing baby. Indeed, I became serious about yoga during my own pregnancies over eighteen years ago!

Yoga is highly suitable for pregnant women as it is none competitive; everyone works to their own level and individual need. Yoga promotes a sense of quietness from within relaxing the mind and body. Whilst yoga cannot guarantee you a perfect birth, yoga during pregnancy maximises the chances of a normal birth.  Even if you are new to yoga the simplest poses will improve your fitness and well being, whilst the relaxation, breathing and meditation can help you to handle the whole birthing process with greater assurance and calm, and most of all giving you a sense of control.  Yoga promotes and supports holistic health tailored to individual needs and inspires women to have confidence in giving birth.

It is important that yoga practice is adapted throughout pregnancy and during the first few months of motherhood to take into account changing emotional and physical needs. Yoga is holistic and works on the mind, body and spirit in beneficial ways that once practiced properly, stay with you for life.
