Rocky May and Pam Farmer are registered practicing midwives with many years experience of working within the National Health Service. Pam and Rocky have worked together since 1998, offering courses of antenatal education to women and their partners/birth supporters. Individually each of us has been involved in developing, delivering and auditing programmes of parenting education across a range of maternity services.
Much of our work is founded upon the principles and philosophy of active birth, where pregnancy, birth and nurturing her baby are seen as normal cycles within a woman’s life; and women are enabled to birth under their own steam, responding instinctively to their body’s rhythms, making informed decisions and choosing options, which are right for them and their babies.
We believe the birth of your baby is a special and important time, becoming new parents can be both exciting and daunting. As childbirth educators we have found it is problem solving and hearing the opinion of others in the same boat, the opportunity to share ideas and information and talk instead of read, which seems to be of real value to couples. Building friendships and developing support networks is important too in gaining confidence when facing the challenges of a totally new experience, becoming a mum and dad. We feel privileged to share in that journey.
